Spirit is wonderfully pushy when it comes to getting what he wants. He'll turn his backside toward you with zero subtlety, making his intentions perfectly clear. But there's no need to fear his assertiveness — Spirit is as gentle as they come. He spent the majority of his life as a horse riding teacher to many children, and that patience and kindness runs deep in his soul.

Spirit was surrendered to us by a local family who recognized something crucial: horses are pack animals who go stir crazy in isolation. They wanted Spirit to have a friend, a companion, a herd. And that's exactly what he found in Sparkles.

While Sparkles is a bit more reserved, these two besties are inseparable. Watching them enjoy their home together — grazing side by side, resting in the sun, finally living as horses are meant to — is one of the sanctuary's greatest joys.
