Gaias Serenity:
Where Compassion Finds a Home

Gaia’s Serenity is a sanctuary born from the belief that every life — no matter how small, scarred, or forgotten — deserves kindness, safety, and love.

Gaia’s Serenity began with a single act of compassion. In 2018, Gareth made the life-changing decision to go vegan. That choice — to no longer contribute to animal suffering — planted the seed of a dream: a sanctuary where animals could live free, safe, and loved.

In 2023, that dream took shape when Gareth and Emily leased 15 acres in the peaceful hills of Ormeau. This land became a refuge for animals who had been abandoned, surrendered, or simply born into systems that saw them as less than.

Today, Gaia’s Serenity is home to more than thirty residents — pigs, goats, cows, horses, and more. Each has their own story of resilience and each is cherished as an individual. With the help of volunteers, donors, and a growing circle of kind-hearted people, Gaia’s Serenity has blossomed into a sanctuary of hope.

Our mission is simple: to offer lifelong sanctuary, kindness, and care to animals in need. But our vision stretches even further — to one day secure a larger, permanent home that will outlive us, creating a legacy sanctuary and a gift to both animals and the compassionate community.

Our Heart & Purpose

Every face here has a story — of survival, resilience, and second chances.
Whether it’s Pepper the pig finding safety with her babies, or a rescued rooster greeting the sunrise
with his proud crow, these lives remind us daily why our work matters.

Our core values guide everything we do:
Kindness – treating every life with gentleness and care
Safety – creating a space where no harm will ever reach them
Compassion – understanding and meeting their unique needs
Respect – honouring the individuality of every resident

Our purpose is to provide lifelong care and sanctuary for farmed animals who have suffered abuse,
neglect, or abandonment. To inspire a kinder world through education, connection, and storytelling.
And to challenge the idea that some animals are “friends” while others are “food,” and instead see
them all as individuals with feelings, needs, and personalities.

Across Australia, millions of farmed animals live and die without the protection or compassion that
cats, dogs, and other companion animals receive.
Many spend their lives without sunshine, fresh air, or the freedom to simply be who they are.

At Gaia’s Serenity, we stand for a different way forward — a life where every being has the chance to
know joy, companionship, and peace.
